How long has it been since I’ve thrown out a movie quote? Years, maybe? It might have been that long. And I must say, I had no idea how much I’d missed doing so. But from the moment this particular quote’s “fit” for today’s post popped into my head, I’ve had a grin on my face. It’s good to be “home.”
In ‘A Star is Born,’ Lady Gaga’s character is unaware of the degree of her own talent. And Bradley Cooper’s character knows that the path to stardom resembles normal life much more so than anyone thinks. A series of accidents. Learning to trust yourself. Realizing that the “stars” are just like the rest of us. (If you haven’t seen this movie, I recommend it highly).
Well, it’s time for you to play the role of Lady Gaga. Time for you to “sing in the Super A parking lot.” Time to trust yourself just a little more than you’re comfortable. Don’t worry, we’ll help you find your voice.

While We’re At It – Apply for a Job?
Yeah, the bar is higher to WORK for us than it is to WRITE for us. But it shares the same interesting characteristic: even the people we HIRE didn’t know they were good enough until they tried. Heck, people who are better at Power BI – MUCH better, actually – than yours truly… questioned themselves. In terms of the tools, basically everyone at P3 Adaptive is better than I am now – and I’m not beating myself up at all. I’m still pretty good – and I freaking LOVE that the team is better.
And you know what? You might write for this site today, and work for us in the future. Everything’s a journey. None of us – not even I – was ready to do our job… until the day arrived that we WERE. It takes reps. We’ve also had people apply, not pass the interview, but then CIRCLE BACK with us a year later and get an offer.
One more thing: the last time I specifically encouraged WOMEN to apply, it worked. So let’s do it again. True story: I still teach lots of our Foundations Classes. (Yeah, I retired from those at one point, but then un-retired 8 months later. Can’t help it, I love that class).
And more than half the time… the best student in each class is female. Furthermore, each class is probably 55% female, 45% male. So you see what I’m saying here, ladies? Statistically speaking, you’ve got the men beat in both quality AND quantity. And yet… more than 80% of our applicants are dudes. Double You Tee Eff, ladies. (Which stands for “What the Formula,” as Chandoo says). Why aren’t you trusting yourselves at the same rate as the men? We’re missing out on great candidates because of this unfortunate phenomenon and it’s time for it to go extinct.
